Betting Tips for the Smart Punter

Podium places up for grabs

It looks like the Yellow Jersey is sewn up by Froome, but the podium places are still up for grabs. It’s another huge stage in the Alps with some brutal climbs that starts with an 8km stint at 7% that isn’t even categorized. The final ascent is up to Mont Blanc and the peleton will have been shreddded by then. It’s more than likely a breakaway will make it so a few small bets at big prices are advised.

Richie Porte won’t be in a break but is the GC pick to take the win if the breakaway is unsuccessful. A great TT yesterday and the Tasmanian is desperate for a podium but still needs to make up time on the riders in front. He now has Tejay as a super domestique and that could really help him if it comes down to him and Froome. He’s the only one that can stay with the Yellow Jersey wearer so he’s the pick of the GC contenders.

I’m having a few of big odds bets for places today on breakaway possibilities. Thomas De Gent is pretty much out of contention for the KOTM points so will be focusing on a stage win. He’s already bagged one over a similar stage and today suits his sty;le perfectly and he’s a value pick today.

It’s forecast for rain and thunderstorms at some point today and that plays in to the hands of Rui Costa. He loves the harsh conditions and will relish today’s lumpy stage with bad weather. He’s been in a few breaks and as long as the legs are fresh he could make a big splash at a nice odds.

Finally a Dimension Data’s Serge Pauwels is worth a shout. He’s been getting himself in the breaks and has good climbing skills.
