Betting Tips for the Smart Punter

Sprinters back for Stage 6

It’s a return to the flat for Stage 6 before we head to the Pyrenees on Friday, and the sprinters are back to take centre stage today. It’s an undulating course and not as simple as it looks on paper but the breakaway will find it hard to stay away with the big teams keen to grab their last chance of a bunch finish victory until next week.

The three big sprinters take up the main part of the market today and there’s really not much between them, which is a puzzle to me why Kittel is priced up as the favorite for the stage. Mark Cavendish has shown that he’s in great form and has the beating of both Kittel and Griepel, so today he’s the value pick and if he can get a clear path through then another stage win looks likely.

I have two other fairly big priced picks today that may upset the apple cart. Bryan Coquard was unlucky not to get his maiden tour win on stage 5 and it was a width of a cigarette paper that denied the Frenchman. He looks primed and ready to grab that debut victory and will have to hassle the big three again, but at the odds he’s well worth a punt. The other rider on the radar is Edward Theuns who has been amazing so far. Two sixth places early on in the week shows that he has the legs and talent to be there when it matters, and with a little luck today the Trek man can get a place in the sprint.
